How to auto-send customization links to Etsy buyers

By default, Etsy’s latest API does not provide the buyer’s email address. This means Teeinblue cannot access buyers’ email addresses directly. Sellers would normally need to copy the buyer’s email address from Etsy and paste it into Teeinblue to send the customization link.

To avoid this manual step, we offer the following alternative methods:

  1. Method 1: Read buyer's email address from the Personalization field
  2. Method 2: Auto-forward Etsy order notification emails to Teeinblue
  3. Method 3: Integrate with Make.com

Method 1: Read buyer's email address from the Personalization field

🚀 How It Works

  • Add an instruction asking buyers to enter their email address in the Personalization field on Etsy.
  • When a new order comes in, Teeinblue extracts the buyer’s email address from the Personalization field and updates it in the Teeinblue system.
  • Once the email address is updated, Teeinblue can automatically send the customization link to the buyer using the email address provided.

🛠️ Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Log in to your Etsy store in Teeinblue and go to General settings in Store Settings.
  2. In Collect Etsy's Personalization data section, select Buyer's email for Personalization data type.

Method 2: Auto-forward Etsy's order notification emails

🚀 How It Works

  • When you receive a new order, Etsy sends you an email with the subject “You made a sale on Etsy”.

Etsy's order notification email

  • Set up your email system to automatically forward these notification emails to services@teeinblue.com.
  • Teeinblue automatically reads the forwarded email, extracts the buyer’s email address, and updates it in Teeinblue.
  • Once the email address is updated, Teeinblue can automatically send the customization link to the buyer using that email address.

This method can be applied to collect shipping address if Teeinblue cannot auto-sync from Etsy Orders.

🛠️ Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Enable auto-forwarding in your email service:

Most email providers (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.) support auto email forwarding.

  • Go to your email settings
  • Find Forwarding rules/ Filters
  • Create a new rule with the following conditions: Subject = "You made a sale on Etsy" (the subject line may vary by language depending on your country) and From = "transaction@etsy.com" (optional).

Example condition in Gmail

For instructions on enabling automatic forwarding with popular email providers, you can check the following guides:

  1. Wait for Teeinblue's verification:

Your email provider will send a verification email to services@teeinblue.com. Please contact us via Live Chat or email to let us know so we can accept the verification. Once approved, your email provider can start forwarding the notification emails to us.

  1. Verify that email forwarding workflow:
  • Place a test order on Etsy
  • Check the Sent folder in your email to confirm that the notification email was forwarded to services@teeinblue.com.
  • In Teeinblue Portal, go to Orders tab and check whether the buyer’s email address has been updated automatically.

Note: This method does not violate Etsy’s policy because:

  • Sellers would normally manually copy and paste buyers’ email addresses into Teeinblue to send customization links. With automatic forwarding, Teeinblue simply automates this process on your behalf.
  • Teeinblue is an Etsy-approved app for sending emails that allow buyers to personalize their products after purchase.
