You might have very familar with this setting! The layer is visible to customers during personalization and will also appear in the final design file used for production.
This setting is ideal for elements that should be visible to customers during customization process and also included in the production-ready file. Basically, what the customers see will be what they get.
The following image will demonstrate the Live Preview on the Storefront vs the Order Design file. They look exactly the same!

The layer is shown to the customer in the Live Preview but is excluded from the Order Design file.
This setting is useful for showing the material or shape of your product in the Live Preview, without adding it to the final Order Design file.
We will demonstrate a few cases where you might need to use them
In this example, each letter represents a raised plastic piece placed on a board. Adding a shadow helps it appear more realistic in the Live Preview.

If you're selling a product with one variant but offer it in different shapes (like a heart or circle), you can use a shape layer in the live preview to show what the product looks like. This shape helps customers visualize the item but doesn’t need to appear in the final order file sent for production.
The following image will demonstrate the Live Preview on the Storefront vs the Order Design file. You will notice that the final Order Design file only has the custom name.

Of course, you could use the Mockup Image feature to represent the shape instead—but if you need to collect which shape the customer chooses, it's better to set it up as a clipart instead.
You can also use this feature to display brand watermarks or instructions to customers.
While you could upload these as image layers in the Mockup Editor, you'd need to do it for every single mockup image.
By adding the layer in the Artwork Editor instead, you only need to set it up once.

The layer is not shown in the Live Preview but will appear in the final Order Design file.
This setting is ideal when you need to send the order design file to a fulfillment service along with specific production guidelines. Some fulfillers require these extra elements—like cut lines or registration marks—for their machines to process the order correctly.
