In-depth guide of Global Template feature

WHAT IS GLOBAL TEMPLATE?

Have you ever needed to make a small change to an element in an Artwork with multiple Templates (i.e number of dogs), only to find yourself spending a lot of time updating that element in every other Templates?

For examples:

You want to change the clipart category of a Dog breed #1 layer in all templates: before you had to do it in every templates, which can be very time-consuming.

Or you want to re-order the personalization options: before you had to re-order in every templates:

To address that issue, Teeinblue has released a new feature to help reduce the time and efforts when making a modification. From now on, if you need to make changes to a personalization, you only need to change in your Global Template, and they will be automatically applied to all other Templates. 🥳

Global Template is a template that its layers and options can be shared across other templates within the same artwork. Any changes related to personalization options from the Global Template can be reflected to other templates.

HOW TO USE GLOBAL TEMPLATE?

You can watch a quick tutorial video here:

In the following example, we will use a case in which you have an Artwork with multiple Number of Dogs Templates.

In case you forgot, please refer to the article Templates of Artwork. But don't worry, in the following example, we will guide you through start to finish on creating a totally new Artwork.

STEP ONE. Creating your Global Template.

Let's start with creating your first Template.
In general, you should always create a Template with the most number of layers (in this case, the number of dogs). This template will then be used as a master-template. From now on, every changes related to the personalization options you make should be from this Template only.

Creating a Template with the most number of dogs

This step is very important! Please be sure you have set up everything perfectly before converting it to Global Template. Because only the changes related to personalization options will be synced after that, not the position of layers.

STEP TWO. Converting a Template to Global Template

Once you're done with creating the Template, you can convert it to Global Template as below.

After you've converted it to Global Template, you should see the following:

Notice that all the layers are wrapped in a blue border. From now on, most changes you make from there will be synced to other templates. Layers' settings such as position, size, or font size, font color will not be synced. This is so you can still edit them individually in each template.

STEP THREE. Creating new Local Templates

After you've converted a Template as Global Template. You can now create new Templates

These newly-created Templates are called Local Template. And you will see it has all the layers similar to the Global Template.

STEP FOUR. Making changes to your Local Template

Now you have got your Local Template, you can make changes to it according to the number of dogs -- in this case, it is 2.

Even though Local Template are synced from Global Template, you can still make changes to the design individually! We will explain more on this at the last section of this Article.

Keep doing so until you reach one number of dog template!

Once you're done, it should look like the following image:

Now you have successfully create an Artwork with a Global Template! You'll notice that you cannot edit a personalization option of a layer in local templates. From now on, every changes related to personalization options should be made from the Global Template and they will be synced to all other Local Templates.

What can be synced between Global Template and Local Template and what cannot?

Even though customizations option are shared and bound to your Global Template. You still can do a lot of things individually from your Local Template.

Actions that can be done individually on Local Templates (cannot be synced from Global Template)Settings that are synced from Global Template (must edit in Global template)
Add new Custom layersPersonalization options. (i.e dog breeds, backgrounds, custom text layers for names, etc.)
Resize and reposition design of Global layersRe-order personalization options
Move custom layers to above or below Global layersRe-order Global layers
Font-related settings: font size, font color, text strokeFont-related settings: font family, text alignment, letter spacing

The following section will explain in details what can be done individually from Local Template

Creating new Layers

You can still add new Layer to each Local Template individually. However, please keep in mind that this new Layer will be outside of all global options, You cannot re-order the new layer in-between the global options as well.

Resizing and repositioning layers
With Local Template, you still can resizing and repositioning layers to your liking!

Hiding global layers

Per the example above, you might have already noticed that you can still hide layers from your Global Template. This is so you can still adjust your Local Template to your liking and the number of Dogs.

Locking layers
Layers from Global Template can still be locked individually. This is so you will not accidentally interact with it while making other changes!

Re-ordering personalization options amongst newly created layers
You can also re-ordering newly personalization options on your Local Template.

However, please be sure that you cannot move newly created layers in-between global layers.

Flip layers
A layer can be flipped individually from Local Template

Replace image layer
You can replace an image layer from Local Template. For example, in the 2 Dogs Template you can change the first Dog to Alaskan Breed:
