Add Condition for Layer
What is Condition for Layer
You can set a dependency for a layer to show up only when another layer meets a condition.
I.e. Layer "B" and its personalization option can only appear if customer selects a specific option in layer "A".
How it works
Let's take a look at this example for better understand:
- Layer A named "Dark Hand" sets " 1 clipart category" and allows to change between "hold-drink" hand or "v-hand".

- Layer B named "Drink" sets "1 clipart category", allows to personalize between different drink types.

- If you want the "Drink" option only shows up when customers choose the Hand layer as "Hold drink", not "V-hand", then you need to set condition for "Drink" option:
- Click on "Drink" layer
- On Layers option panel, scroll down and click on Conditional settings
- In the "Show this layer and its options when:" option, select the layer option (" Dark Hand") which this layer ("Drink") depends on
- Select the value "Hold drink" to show the "Drink" option

Also, if you need to show your layer Drink without customer choosing dependency layer when they visit your product page for the first time, you can show dependency layer at first-time loading page by enabling "Show this layer on first load".

Use condition on multiple layers
There are cases when you want to add more conditions based on multiple layers. Please view the example below:

Please see the following steps:
- Upload your Layer for the Dog Quote:

- In this case, you should use AND condition:

- Set the first condition for the Dog on the Left

_(Now the Quote will show up if the Pet on the left side is set to Dog. But you will need to apply the same for the Dog on the right as well) _
- Set the next condition by clicking the
add conditionsbutton:

- Continue to set the next condition as below:

Use a text layer as a condition
In Artwork 2.0, you can now show or hide a Layer based on what the Customer types into a Single-line Text or Curve Text Layer.
Step 1. Select the text Layer as the source
- Select the layer you want to show or hide, go to Conditional settings > Add , and choose your
Single-line TextorCurve Textlayer as the source.

Step 2. Choose an Operator and Enter a Value
- Select an operator on the left, then enter the corresponding value in the Enter text field.

Here are the operator you can set up:
- is / is not;
- starts with / ends with;
- contains / does not contain;
- is empty / is not empty.

Some FAQs:
How Matching Values Work?
- Case-insensitive:
david,David, andDAVIDare treated the same. - Spaces: Leading and trailing spaces are ignored, eg:
DavidmatchesDavid. Spaces within the text are preserved, soMary Annremains unchanged. - Accents: Accents are considered, so
Ánhdoes not matchAwhen usingstarts with.
What happens when the customer hasn't input any values?
When the customer first opens the product page, the layer's visibility is evaluated in the following order:
- Is there a pre-filled text?
If the Prefill default text to customer's input setting is enabled, the pre-filled text counts as typed. The operator decides right away, just like when the Customer types the text themselves.

- Is the text field empty?
If nothing is typed (or only spaces), the Layer with condition follows the Show this layer on first load toggle:
- On: the Layer is shown on the preview.
- Off: the Layer is hidden.

In both cases, the source layer used remains hidden until the condition is met.
is empty is always met and is not empty is never met, regardless of the toggle setting.Updated on: 23/10/2026
