Understanding Artwork Versions and Their Impact on Orders
This article will explain in detail what Artwork Versions are and how they impact your Order Designs.
What is Artwork Version
Each time an artwork is created in the app, it is assigned a unique Artwork Version. This version works like a snapshot of the design at that exact moment.
Each time you update the artwork, the system creates a new Artwork Version with its own unique ID. Refer to the table below for a list of actions that will trigger a new version.
Most actions related to visual changes will create a new artwork version, including:
Category | What triggers a new version |
---|---|
Top-Level Artwork Data | Changes to artwork size (width/height), design format, template settings, or overall templates. |
Template Properties | Changes to template ID (affects structure and sorting), visibility, or global settings. |
Layout & Transform (inside each template layer) | Moving or resizing elements, rotating, flipping, adjusting opacity, or any changes to layout/position. |
Shadow Effects | Turning shadows on/off, changing shadow blur, color, or shadow position. |
Visual & Color | Replacing an image, changing colors, or adjusting color transparency. |
Text Styling | Editing text content, alignment, fonts, letter spacing, strokes/outlines, curved text, auto-scaling, text background, or line/paragraph spacing. |
Personalization Fields | Changing input field types, visibility rules, editable settings, default values, or dependencies. |
Vector / SVG | Changing vector fills, strokes, stroke thickness, or path data. |
Effects & Extras | Repositioning clipart, grouping changes, applying/removing masks, changing blend modes, or editing borders (color, width, or radius). |
How Artwork Versions Affect Order Designs
Understanding the difference between Artwork Version and Order Design
When an order is placed, the order design is generated using the Artwork Version available at that time. If you later edit the artwork (creating a new version), existing orders will not be updated automatically. As a result, the designs in older orders may differ from the latest artwork.
In the example above, you can see the difference between the Order Design (the girl does not have a jacket) and the current Artwork Version (has a jacket). This is because, at the time the customer placed the order, the jacket had not yet been added to that artwork version..
Updating the Order Design to the latest Artwork Version
When clicking the Regenerate Design
button, if Teeinblue finds a new version created for the artwork, we'll show an option:
- No. Keep the current artwork version: when you re-generate the design, the Order Design will be refreshed but still tied to the Artwork Version that existed when the order was created.
This is useful if you want to maintain the integrity of the original design while making small adjustments — such as editing a few elements through the Edit Customization button.
- Yes. Upgrade latest artwork version: When you upgrade an order to the latest Artwork Version and re-generate the design, the Order Design will be updated accordingly. Any changes— such as new layers, adjusted layer positions, or other edits — will appear in the refreshed Order Design. This is especially useful if the old artwork version contains issues, such as misaligned layers or outdated design elements.
Edit Customization
panel. However, the choices will be blank as the Customers did not select them. If you wish to include them in the Order Design, you will need to manually choose each clipart.Alternatively, you can upgrade your Artwork Version without immediately regenerating the Order Design via this method:
This is useful if you only want to upgrade the Artwork Version in order to unlock new customization options in the Edit Customization panel. From there, you can make further changes before finally regenerating the Order Design.
